There is a 4 mile long (one way) gated gravel that begins at Stecoah Gap and heads up the mountain from there. This gated road offers some incredible views of the Stecoah Valley!
Note: The Appalachian Trail also crosses the highway at Stecoah Gap.
"From Bryson City, follow Hwy. 74 W towards Nantahala. Go right on Hwy. 28 N towards Robbinsville. Go about 10 miles, left on NC Hwy. 143 (follow signs to Robbinsville. Go about 3 miles. Trailhead is on the left with a parking area where the Appalachian trail crosses the highway. Ride around the gate onto the overgrown forest road.
